AJANTA ELLORA - Heritage Site | Magnificent Maharashtra



Ajanta and Ellora caves are located near Aurangabad in the Maharashtra State.

 Ajanta and Ellora caves are combination of Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monuments. The Ajanta caves are 29 in number and are made between the Period of 2nd century BC and 6th century AD whereas The Ellora caves are large in number i.e. 34 and they are built around the period of 6th and 11th century AD. These enormous caves are built with the help of only Hammer and Chisel. Ajanta and Ellora caves are designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are admired by tourists from all over the world. The Kailash Temple is one of the most well-known site in the Ellora Caves. It is formed at Cave 16 of Ellora Caves and No Doubt it is one of the best site to see when visiting Ellora Caves. The Paintings And Sculptures made Inside the Caves depicts the Life of Buddha and is very Inspiring to the Visitors.

Travel  Tips
--- By Road. Mumbai to Aurangabad is only 100 km from Ajanta and 30 km from Ellora. You can hire a local taxi or travel by the state-run buses to reach the Ajanta Ellora Caves. 

----By Rail.  Aurangabad is well-connected to Mumbai and Pune by rail. The Jalgaon Station is the closest rail head to Ellora.
